Who we are

Welcome to STEAMTeam 5 — where imagination meets empowerment. We create inspiring stories and role models to encourage girls to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math (STEAM) in bold, creative, and confident ways.

Our Mission

Our mission is to build a universe of characters and stories that attract, engage, and encourage girls to learn STEAM skills. Our books, tools, and resources are more than entertainment; they’re part of a movement to spark curiosity, confidence, and sustained interest in STEAM from a young age.

Our Story

When we (Pam and Greg) started this venture, we did so with a simple, powerful goal: to give girls role models in areas where they’re too often underrepresented. Inspired by Greg’s desire to teach his daughter how to question, create, and innovate—and frustrated by the scarcity of narratives spotlighting girls in science and math—we set out to write something different.

Our first book, STEAMTeam 5: The Beginning, introduces five amazing girls who use STEAM to solve problems, build worlds, and demonstrate that curiosity and creativity know no gender. From there, the STEAMTeam 5 universe continues to grow with future books, educator kits, merchandise, and more.

Along the way, we’ve been humbled to speak at forums like the United Nations’ Women & Girls in Science event. We launched a successful Kickstarter to help fund the printing of hard-cover versions of STEAMSTEAM 5 in full color, and we continue to keep building tools for educators, libraries, and families.

Who We Are

Pamela Métivier
Co-Creator, STEAMTeam 5 | Founder, Colibrété | Advocate for Girls in STEAM

I co-created STEAMTeam 5 because I believe every girl should see herself as a scientist, engineer, artist, and inventor. I wanted to help build a world where curiosity and creativity are superpowers—and where girls grow up knowing they belong in STEAM.

My background is in product marketing, analytics, and process design. For more than 25 years, I’ve helped organizations turn insight into action, guiding startups and global enterprises through growth and transformation. But no project has ever meant more to me than STEAMTeam 5.

Together with my co-creator, Greg Helmstetter, and his daughter Kamea, I’ve had the privilege of sharing our mission on the global stage—including at the United Nations’ International Day of Women and Girls in Science event in New York. I’ve also been featured on Diva Tech Talk’s “Leading Women in Tech” and Her STEM Story’s “Real Women in STEM” podcasts, speaking about creativity, representation, and the importance of early inspiration.

Through STEAMTeam 5, we’re telling stories that make science, technology, engineering, art, and math feel exciting, inclusive, and within reach. I live in Scottsdale, Arizona, where I continue to work at the intersection of creativity, data, and education—helping organizations build smarter systems while helping kids, especially girls, imagine bigger futures.

When my daughter was born, I started thinking hard about her future. What kind of world would she grow up in? Would there even be jobs? My wife and I decided that whatever the future looked like, we’d make sure she was ready for it—curious, capable, and confident.

Like many parents, I kept hearing about the importance of STEM—science, technology, engineering, and math—but I also noticed something missing: stories and role models that spoke directly to girls. That realization turned into a mission.

Because I work from home, I’ve been able to take an active role in my daughter’s learning from the start. Together, we explore how things work, solve problems, build, code, and—most importantly—have fun doing it. Our playtime became a classroom for creativity and empowerment. When we played with her dolls, I gave them STEAM “superpowers” to invent, rescue, and create. Before long, my daughter stopped asking to “play dolls” and started asking, “Can we play Company?”

Whenever I shared these stories with other parents, their eyes lit up—they wanted those same stories for their kids. That’s when my longtime friend and business partner, Pamela Métivier, and I decided to bring STEAMTeam 5 to life.

Through STEAMTeam 5, our mission is to inspire a new generation of girls to see themselves as inventors, scientists, artists, and leaders. Our first book, The Beginning, is just that—a start. We hope you’ll join us as we continue building a world where every girl grows up believing she can design, create, and change anything she sets her mind to.

Our Characters

STEAMTeam 5’s core cast illustrates a spectrum of interests and strengths — proving there is no single “look” or “type” for a girl in STEAM:

  • Sandia Scientist — curious and experimental, always testing hypotheses and diving into mysteries

  • Treeka Technologist — puzzles, cryptography, and code are her playground

  • Evelyn Engineer — builds, tinkers, invents — she sees problems as challenges waiting to be shaped

  • Ariana Artist — bridges art and tech; she draws, sculpts, animates, and designs digitally

  • Mattie Mathematician — finds patterns, loves logic and numbers, and sees hidden order in the world

Why It Matters

Girls grow up silencing questions, second-guessing curiosity, or skipping STEM topics due to lack of representation or encouragement. We believe they deserve heroes who feel like them — and stories that push them toward possibility, not limitation.

With each book and resource, we aim to:

  • Show girls using STEAM to solve real problems

  • Encourage collaboration, risk taking, and curiosity

  • Provide resources for educators and parents

  • Build a vibrant, growing community around STEAM storytelling
